Running to represent the citizens of south Maplewood and Woodbury

The right to life is the first and most foundational right. If we deny rights to others, how can we expect our rights to be honored?

At the first political rally I ever attended in 1996, Alan Keyes spoke about how the founding of our country, slavery and abortion were connected. He referenced Abraham Lincoln’s letter to H.L. Pierce in 1859: “Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves, and, under a just God, cannot long retain it.”  Keyes asserted that the same applies to children in the womb. Governments acknowledge and protect our rights, but they are not the source of our rights. Our God given status as human beings made in the image of God are what bestow on us our basic rights

In Minnesota, we currently have a brutal law on the books. Anyone, including minors without parental notification, can obtain an abortion at any time for any reason up to birth. This alone makes us an outlier in the US and around the world. Not only that, if a baby survives an abortion, the Democrat trifecta in 2023 changed the law so that only comfort care is required to be given to the baby, not normal life sustaining care. This is reminiscent of the ancient Roman Empire practice of abandoning unwanted babies called exposure (expositio). In fact, it is worse. Because in that practice babies were often left in designated locations where there was a chance that someone would come along to care for the child and adopt as their own. Many families would welcome a baby who had survived an abortion with open arms, but this law takes away even that chance from the innocent newborn child.

During the same legislative session, further cruelty was enacted to take away funds from crisis pregnancy centers that help women during and after pregnancy. These centers provide direct emotional and physical support to young mothers as well as help them in finding other charitable and government support outlets in their community. It is pure political spite that their funding was stripped.

If elected my first priority will be to work to get funding restored to these life supporting pregnancy centers. It is imperative to begin work legislatively to honor life born and unborn.

We must also resist attempts to allow physician assisted suicide.  In every country where this is started the situation quickly arises where people are pressured into ending their lives.  Vulnerable people become fearful of going into the hospital.
